Eternal Voices: Monument Design Competition Culminates in Inspiring Architectural Showcase

The Eternal Voices: Monument Design Competition was conceived as a platform to inspire architectural innovation and creativity among students across Bangladesh. Organized by ArchDune in collaboration with the nation’s architectural institutions, this competition aimed to commemorate the enduring legacy of voices that shaped our identity while challenging participants to explore monumental design in meaningful and thought-provoking ways.

Competition Brief

The competition calls for the design of a monument that honors the memory of the 1,000+ lives of students and general people lost during the 2024 mass uprising in Bangladesh. This event, marked by its profound impact on the nation’s history, reflects the courage, sacrifice, and unyielding spirit of the people who stood for justice and change. The monument should serve as a place of reflection and inspiration for future generations. Participants were tasked to interpret the theme “Eternal Voices” in innovative ways, addressing key aspects such as symbolism, context, materiality, and user experience.

Process and Participation

The competition unfolded in four stages . . .

Registration and Submission: Participants registered their teams (not more than 3 persons) and submitted their designs within the stipulated timeframe. Submissions included detailed drawings, conceptual narratives, and visualization materials.

Preliminary Review: A technical committee reviewed all entries for adherence to submission guidelines and thematic relevance, shortlisting projects for final evaluation.

Time Period, Judgment and Evaluation: ArchDune was announce the Eternal Voices Monument Design Architectural Competition, which launched on October 07, 2024. Registration for the competition officially opened on October 09, 2024, inviting architectural students from across Bangladesh to participate. Interested participants were required to complete their registration by November 25, 2024, which also served as the final deadline for project submissions. After a thorough evaluation process, the much-anticipated results were published on December 16, 2024. This competition provided a unique opportunity for students to showcase their creativity, innovation, and architectural excellence in commemorating voices that deserved to be eternalized.

Prize Giving Ceremony: The winners were honored by the Vice-Chancellor of AUST Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning Dr. Jasmin Ara Begum, The Head of the Department of Architecture and juror Ar. A.B.M Mahbubul Malik, Professor and juror of the Competition Ar. Dr. Shehzad Zahir, who handed over the certificates, and prize money to the top teams in 7th January 2025. The winning design and the faculty members and the students charged the atmosphere with excitement and pride. Again Ar. Md Ehsanul Hoque, the Founder & Owner at ArchDune, and Ar. Afra Anjum Suchana, an Assistant Editor at ArchDune, were present to successfully conduct the program.
